Here’s another spot in the Serendra Piazza that doesn’t get much love — not cuz the food sucks, but it’s cuz their location isn’t as glamorous as Abe’s.
It’s near Kape Isla — on the Market Market side.
Healthy Kitchen is just what it sounds like. They’ve got some tasty food that’s good for you. 9 out of 10 doctors recommend it…. okay maybe not, but don’t knock it ’til you try it.
G recommends the Father Oops Monsignor James Salad with the chicken.

Look, they’ve got like a million different chairs!

Hope yall made it out to this one cuz this was a fun-filled event.
They had bands on one side and djs on the other.
I popped into Whitebox Studio and Pablo Gallery to check out the pieces. Our boy Vernon had his rust-work still displayed. Check the foto below.
At first the Silent Disco held at Pablo Gallery looked like a miss, but it got crackin!

It’s like watching paint dry, but it’s metal rusting. Thank you for your patience Vernon!

Catch it at the Whitebox Gallery.

Who’s she texting while she’s performing?!

Silent Disssssscooooooo! Sshhhhh!

You’re Welcome!

Some drunk dude. Rockin out

Stop being bougie (urban dictionary) and support your local kinfolk and hit up Kape Isla. It’s on the Market Market side of Serendra Piazza, so they aren’t getting a lot of foot traffic.
This isn’t a place to “look important” or display your lapdog as an accessory. Just a dope spot to sip on some home grown coffee and enjoy the sound of ‘quiet’ so you can concentrate on reading your new book, magazine, or of course, MS Asia editorials. Oh, they’ve got free WIFI.
Order the Choconut Shake!
I’ll be chillin’ here on the regular. Catch me if you can!

Day 2 – Creative Collaboration
This one was @ GB5. Eight groups of five collabed to design poster-sized prints to make you do a double take.
Definitely some interesting stuff. The exhibit runs until August 15.
Oh yeah — I stumbled into Bratpack, one of Manila Design Week’s sponsors and they were displaying some Ron English art pieces. Don’t forget to drop in if you’re in the area. Word up.

What’s good yall?! I’m the new guy here, so go easy on me.
Being that I’m a transplanted-transplant, it’s great to see events like this in Manila.
I was able to catch the artists in action, then later that evening I got to hear a few dope bands — Techy Romantics / Taken By Cars / Up Dharma Down.
You guys should check out the rest of the week. But if you can’t make it to the rest of the events, I recommend Day 5: Cubao Experience, where the highlight for me would be the Silent Disco (everyone rocks out to their own tunes). Check out the Manila Design Week Site for more info.
Here’s some fotos for your eye-buds.

Ron English is a silly guy.

G be chillin’

This one was recommended by our friend Rissa at Contemporary Art Philippines

This is the exhibit of Dominic Rubio, titled Maynila. In this exhibit, Rubio, who has had a successful career of exhibits in Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore and most recently in Toronto and New York, returns to Manila with a very powerful exhibition.
He will be exhibiting 40 works using Manila’s colonial imagery as a source of boundless inspiration successfully eliciting that nostalgia around the romantic story of our great oriental city. Paete, Laguna born and educated at the University of Sto. Tomas, Rubio is the Founding Member of the prestigious Guevarra Group of Artists.
This event promises to be a very exciting one as well. Whereas in MANILART09 we were partnered with Mastercard and BDO who invited their Platinum and Titanium card holders, this time we are working with HSBC Premier who will be inviting the Premier clients. We are also expecting the top collectors It also promises to be an upscale and dressy affair, we are urging our guests to come either in Filipiniana or in business attire.
For entertainment, noted and internationally popular violinist John Lesaca together with the Two Seasons classical upright bass and guitar duo will perform.

Our boy, King Crux recommended this place after a much heated debate with BAJA (read the cruz blog for more info) anyways… BAJA has a really good adobo chicken taco, can’t complain… but man… Ristras has the burrito crown by a mile! (although i heard BAJA just launched a new California burrito!)
Back to Ristras, this place smells like a dirty taco shop in a good way… it definitely brought back the California scent. The food is off the hook! Amazing.. this place gets a 5/5 in every category except location… TH and RH approve, so should you. why does green hills get all the good shit? (Charlie’s Burger is near there too!)
The menu, keep it simple.

Real f*ckin authentic

they even had the tortilla steamer!

added the finger for reference

i recommend, 9 layer dip, any burrito, the Fa-Jie-Tas, and Quesadilla
location is on:
Ristras Mexican Grill
J. Abad Santos cor Lopez Jaena, San Juan (turn right from Wilson when you see Alex III)
11am-12midnight (up to 1:30am Fridays and Saturdays)
